About us
The YTS started as group of ex sawmill workers,
individuals that came together as a result of TimberWest’s
closure of the Cowichan Lumber mill in Youbou B.C. The Society was
registered in December of 2000.
Since its inception the Society has moved from a confrontational
group, to a community based support group welcoming members of all
stripes, from environmentalists to industry support workers. We
became the first Society of our type to offer a Medical Dental Plan
to our membership, a plan that is on par with major players in the
forest industry. We are also working on a local Community Forest
initiative, planning to provide fiber for local resource based forestry
operations.
The mandate of the society is to educate the larger community to
the wrongs being perpetrated on communities by multi-national corporations
in the name of profit, and assist other communities with the benefit
of our experience.
Our Mission
Meetings are held every Wednesday in Ken's
home 6795 Somenos road at 7:00pm.
