Clause 7
To whom it may concern:
My name is Art Blazewicz, I am a former employee of the historic
and still functional and profitable sawmill that once occupied Youbou,
and employed 230 or so employees and other related jobs. Timberwest
had hastily torn the plant down immediately following the very suspicious
disappearance of clause 7 in the TFL 49 license. I'm sure you're
familiar with the story. The whole ordeal was shrouded with cover-ups,
lies and secrecy and I was just wondering if any investigation has
been made over this scandal outside of our own guilty governments.
Information from the freedom of info act was delayed,
repressed , whited out & doctored, Expropriators like Scott
Folk( whom was temporarily made CEO) was assigned to carry out the
duty (of shutting the mill down) ..through bribery. Our previous
forest minister ....Dave Zirnhelt, I believe, came forth months
later to admit he" mistakenly"( ya right) removed that
one particular clause, yet refused to reinstate it. Our IWA president
Dave Haggard claimed to have some bombshell to use against our government
yet he hushed that up. Our own attorney general felt no inquiry's
were necessary despite the thousands of protests and parades for
many months afterwords. The so called .....attempt to sell the facility's
in a secret fashion doesn't make sense as the particulars are still
not known except by our union who would rather keep us in the dark
as well.
Anyways....being a victim of this scandal with
no aid anywhere, I am now unemployed, unable to find another job,
suffering with back problems incurred by many years of gruelling
work & denied WCB. I am now forced to apply for welfare which
I don't want and my home ( which I've put my heart & soul into
for almost 30 years) is now in jeapardy. I know I'm not the only
one in this predicament.
This industry is what put these small communitys
on the map and surrounding us is nothing but forests. I ask....what
about our domestic needs?, as one truck load of raw logs after another
disappear south of the border to keep their citizens working. If
they try to tell you the mill was too old, and unviable.......don't
buy it. Three quarters of that mill was refurbished in the early
80's and Timberwest did all it could to make it look that way (unviable).
When we shut down, we were still making a profit. It was state of
the art, except for one section of the mill. The 10 million needed
to revamp that section is peanuts for a big outfit like that, yet
Timberwest chose to invest in more "logging trucks".
Since it bought out Fletcher Challenge, Timberwest
did not upkeep the mill but let it erode. It was self sufficient
in operating costs, but chose to dismantle the powerhouse and convert
to BC hydro (high cost), it then tore down the dry kilns which they
just finished putting a million into. They commended us for making
profits and improving our safety record and quality control, yet
still stabbed us all in the back anyway. We were told there wasn't
enough fibre to keep our mill going!!!! Now look at how much they
are exporting! None of this makes sense and if ever I've seen a
situation of corporate greed, it's now. What kind of government
is this, that taxes us all to death, does nothing to assist us,
and only seems to sympathizes and looks after these greedy foreign
shareholders whom couldn't give a damn about Canada.
If you like a challenge, I suggest you look
further into my allegations and I'm sure the Youbou Timberless Society
at, yts@savebcjobs.com would be willing to assist you with more
info. This blatant scandal deserves a more thorough investigation!
Please help! Just look at the situation now. Half of BC is unemployed
and all our trees our heading south.....go figure. The victims of
this scandal want compensation and rightly deserve it. The "free
trade" situation, and ridiculous tariffs on our lumber is just
a smoke screen and the Americans way of taking our forests from
us. Art Blazewicz
