TFL 46
August 18, 2003
The Editor;

In reference to the announcement by BC deputy chief forester Ken Baker, “TFL 46 annual cut increased”.

It is absolutely mind boggling the ineptitude shown by the forestry ministry in dealing with TimberWest. This company, the managers of which have a goal to destroy the foundations of community, has been given license to continue it’s destruction of our local resources, with no benefit to the community other than a handful of loggers and contract truck drivers employed.

Millions of dollars a year in raw resources leaving the Cowichan Valley to be flogged off to the highest bidder in the world log market. The reason? Financing the interest and dividends on TimberWest’s stapled units. Now the Ministry in all its wisdom allows an even higher annual cut.

What we must not forget however is that this is the “New Era” in British Columbia; we now have working forests?? It doesn’t matter that after submissions on the “Working forest” only 1% of respondents supported the government’s mindless plans.

Yeh lets make them forests work! For whom I ask? Not for the benefit of Joe Average taxpayer, because Joe isn’t Average any more he can’t feed his family and can’t pay taxes. Why? Because he doesn’t have a job it’s rolling down the road away from the Cowichan Valley on Timberwest logging trucks right down to Shoal Islands for export, thanks to the wisdom of the Ministry of Forests.
