A small but determined group of
Youbou TimberLess Society members again took the societies fight
against the Export of Raw Logs to the public. On Friday, 17th
September 2004 society members demonstrated on a pedestrian overpass
located just South of Duncan on the Island Highway. Once again
support in the form of loud blasts from truck air horns, quieter
toots from lesser vehicles and sometimes wild waving from vehicle
occupants was evident. A conservative guess would be an expression
of support from at least 75% of passing traffic. It is estimated
some 10,000 vehicles were exposed to YTS banners during the four
hour demonstration. Support from the public during this demonstration
can only be described as "uplifting" and we encourage
everyone to become part of our next demonstration slated to be
held Monday, 4th October 2004 at the same location. The 4th October
event will make the YTS part of an Island wide event which will
see demonstrations taking place at several other Island locations.
