THE GREAT LAKE WALK - September 2005

The 56 klm Greak Lake Walk has, over the years, become what can only be described as a Cowichan Valley Institution, and, for the Youbou TimberLess Society, it's greatest single source of funding. Over the past three years, first Roger Wiles and then Gary Fearon have fearlessly stepped forward to participate in this gruelling event on behalf of the YTS. Gary, an outgoing and ouspoken individual has become something of a hero among YTS members as in successive years his efforts have produced the societies largest single donation. This years total was the best ever, at $925.00. Our hats are doffed to both Roger & Gary and their efforts will always be appreciated.

Completing a walk of this length is a huge challenge, even for seasoned and trained athletes, but, for the average Joe it is even harder. Both Roger and Gary completed this course for only two reasons, personal satisfaction and a desire to raise funds for something they believed in - namely the Youbou TimberLess Society. Their rewards for this dedication are none, unless one considers some incredibly blistered feet, and torturously agonizing muscle cramps payment. There is however one other payment that may not be quite as obvious - the sincere and heartfelt gratitude of every YTS member for their efforts. Sometimes this gratitude is not apparent but rest assured that it is there.

The entire Youbou TimberLess Society Executive and every single society member says a heartfelt - Thank you Guys!!
