Celebration of YTS Champion

The 56 kilometer, annual Great Lake Walk was held at Cowichan Lake on Saturday, September 15 this year with over 500 registered entries. Entrant Buddy Bhandar generously volunteered to represent the Youbou TimberLess Society (YTS) in a fundraising bid for our nonprofit community organization.

An ultra-marathoner, Buddy ran the course in a personal-best time of 4 hours, 46 minutes, 27 seconds and was number two to ring the finish-line bell. While he took second position for the round-the-lake course, he definitely assumed first place with the Youbou TimberLess Society.

The former Youbou Sawmill power engineer said he was pleased with his performance. His time was a scant 11 minutes behind the leader who broke the course record this year in weather conditions that were cool and dry.

Director Richard Weir, in charge of pledges, announced that $546 dollars has been raised to date by Buddy's heroic effort.

The YTS wishes to express thanks to all those who pledged support over the past three months.

The YTS wishes to also thank the Great Lake Walk organizing team for this outstanding community event.

Well done all!
