On October 13, 2004
a group of the dedicated Youbou TimberLess Society members once
again set out to see if it was true that more and more logs are
leaving our area than ever before. On this day we counted 150
loaded logging trucks leaving the Lake Cowichan area in a 9 hour
period. This compared with a previous count (4 years ago) at the
same location reveals some startling facts. In 2000 the count
for a 12 hour period at the same location was 107 trucks. or 9
trucks per hour..... jump to 2004 and there are 16.667 trucks
per hour or 200 in a 12 hour period.
Do the math and see that almost 100 extra trucks per day are leaving
on this one road in one area of our Island..
