The Youbou TimberLess Society recognizes radical
reform is needed in British Columbia forest policy. We also believe
there are creative solutions that do not include handing our forests
over to private industry.
The YTS is offering bold, worker inspired management
of a large scale, area-based infinitely renewable tenure shaped
by the principles of progressive forest stewardship and sustainability.
Our plan is to manage the land base in a way that
makes comprehensive use of all forest resources. We will be mindful
of watershed protection, non-forest products, visual impact and
timber. The plan favours preservation whilst selectively harvesting
timber in perpetuity.
We plan to manage under the guidance of a community
based expert panel. Over time, a secure stable base of
employment will evolve and the land-base will generate a relatively
constant revenue flow. This land-base will be self-financing and
profitable. Market for our product will be geared to local processing
and to enhance community based value-added trade.
