The Wednesday, 31 October 2007 meeting of the Executive Directors was convened at the Riverside Inn Restaurant, Lake Cowichan at 9:00 AM with all Directors but Casey and Weir present. Member L. Vermiere attended.

1. It was moved and seconded to accept the minutes of the 24 October 2007 meeting as circulated.

2. It was moved and seconded to accept the agenda for today’s meeting as circulated.

3. The Treasurer did not report.

4. The Secretary reported email correspondence.

The Secretary reported on an offer of information assistance from the BC Forests Society and also on a request for comments and suggestions to some draft working documents.

5. Roger reported on the recent invitation from University of Victoria professor Brian Egan for YTS representatives to speak to a 4th-year Environmental Studies class about the “politics of forestry.” Ken and
Roger have agreed to attend on Tuesday, 20 November 2007.

6. Ken reported on recent discussions with lawyer Joseph Arvay. The BC Court of Appeals ruling is still pending.

7. Discussion about Forests Minister Rich Coleman’s “new action plan” to shift the coastal forest industry. It is an extremely disappointing
capitulation to corporate interests at the expense of the public’s forest resources and the welfare of small communities. Ken has conducted interviews with local radio and newspapers.

8. Discussion about the pre-Xmas, YTS mail-out. The next issue of the TimberLess Times is being drafted. Keith has addressed all the envelopes. Ken will arrange printing and folding. A stuff and stick session will be held following the next regular meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 AM after the Directors agreed to reconvene at the Riverside Hotel Restaurant, Lake Cowichan on Wednesday, 07 November 2007 at 9:00 AM.
