November 28, 2007
The Wednesday, 28 November 2007 meeting of the
Executive Directors was convened at the Silverbridge Hotel Restaurant,
Duncan at 9:00 AM with all Directors but Casey present. Members
K. Dickens and L. Vermiere attended.
1. It was moved and seconded to accept the minutes of the 14 November
2007 meeting as circulated.
2. It was moved and seconded to accept the agenda for today’s
meeting as circulated.
3. The Treasurer reported current balances.
4. The Secretary reported email correspondence.
The Secretary reported receiving notice from SOVA that a demonstration
will be held at the Ledge on Thursday, 29 November 2007 to protest
the removal of private lands from Port Alberni’s TFL 44.
The Secretary reported an invitation to discuss common issues with
a member from the “residents and concerned citizens of the
Koksilah/Glenora watershed” group. An information picket is
reportedly planned for Thursday, 29 November 2007 outside a
meeting of Island Timberlands at the Silverbridge Hotel, Duncan.
The Secretary reported that MLA Doug Routley has accepted our invitation
to attend the Xmas party social.
5. Ken reported more on the recent BC Court of Appeals decision.
Lawyer Joseph Arvay continues to explore options.
6. Keith and Ken reported on receipt of the new toner cartridges
for the laser printer.
7. Ken and Roger reported attending a Western Canada Wilderness
Committee strategy workshop at UVic on Tuesday, 20 November 2007.
8. Ken and Roger reported on their presentation to an Environmental
Studies class at the University of Victoria on Tuesday, 20 November
2007. A video screening and talk was followed by discussion.
9. Discussion about the YTS Xmas party scheduled for Saturday, 15
December 2007. Ken and Keith will purchase gifts and supplies. Rick
will canvas local businesses for door prize donations. Roger will
prepare food hamper boxes. Volunteers will cook
turkey and ham to supplement the potluck contributions.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 AM after the Directors agreed
to reconvene at the Silverbridge Hotel Restaurant, Duncan on Wednesday,
12 December 2007 at 9:00 AM.
