Hundreds of Protesters to do the "Ancient Forest Falldown" at Saturday's (Oct.13) Rally in Victoria in Anticipation of BC Government's Coastal Old-Growth Strategy

This Saturday, Oct.13, environmentalists will be out in full force at an old-growth forest rally in Victoria (11:30 am Crowd Gathers at Centennial Square for a March, 12:00 noon Arrives at Legislature for Speeches). The rally is in anticipation of the BC government's forthcoming Coastal Forest Industry Plan, which will
be followed by a Coastal Old-Growth Strategy. Three-fourths of the crowd will "fall down" to the noise of a chainsaw and a crashing tree, in order to represent the amount of Vancouver Island's productive old-growth forests that have already been logged. Between 400 to 1000 protesters are expected to show up.

So far speakers will include:

- Ken Wu (Wilderness Committee)

- Bob Simpson (BC NDP Forestry Critic)

- Adriane Carr (Green Party of Canada Deputy Leader)

- Ken James (Youbou TimberLess Society)

- Arnold Bercov (Pulp, Paper, and Woodworkers of Canada Union)

- Maryjka Mychajlowycz (Friends of Clayoquot Sound)

- Rob Duncan (Sierra Club of BC).
