forwarded from and email message:
Hello,
The CVRD Environment Commission needs your help. We've come up with
12 big ideas for how to build a strong, resilient community (details
below).
Now we need your input to turn these ideas into a solid plan that
gives local government clear direction for the future. Our timeline
for getting your input is November 10, 2008.
How you can help:
1. Go to http://www.12things.ca/12things/index.php
to read about our ideas, and fill out our survey. And then get everyone
else in your household to do the same. (Yes, Chances of prizes!!)
2. Come to our Community Conversation event next Wednesday November
5th at 7pm (details below).
3. Forward this email to all your friends that live in the Cowichan
region.
Thank you!

Our 12 big ideas
We’re so lucky to have a wealth of natural assets - forests,
rivers, plants, animals, land, air and water - here in the Cowichan
region. But we have made some mistakes in how we have managed these
assets (e.g. we dump our sewage into the river and our carbon into
the air, we’re depleting our groundwater supply in some parts
of the region, and we’re building on farmland because it is
often easier and cheaper - in the short term - than reclaiming contaminated
sites or insisting on building denser communities.)
If we carry on living for today and not thinking about tomorrow,
we run the risk of losing these natural assets forever. This is
why we put together our list of big ideas for making our region
more sustainable. Our list is made up of small, medium and large
actions we need to take to build a strong, resilient Cowichan. Do
you agree with our ideas? Let us know at www.12things.ca
Community Conversation: Community-based Economics What: Please join
